Tackling climate change through rural women's empowerment

Abstract

The adverse effects of climate change and the unprecedented depletion of natural resources pose serious threats to food security and nutrition, especially for small-scale food producers. Rural women have more limited access to productive resources, services, education and employment opportunities while experiencing, excessive workloads and limited decision-making power. This booklet introduces the key gender-related challenges in the effects of climate change. It covers existing data and evidence, and international commitments, and highlights related FAO work aimed at achieving sustainable and inclusive agricultural development for food security and nutrition.
