Addressing small scale fisheries management through Participatory Action Research (PAR), an experience from the Philippines

Abstract

This paper is about the use of Participatory Action Research (PAR) and how it can influence change among stakeholders in small scale fisheries. It is made up of the following sections: an articulation of why the use of participatory action research (PAR) is a good way to go for addressing the governance challenges of managing small scale fisheries; a discussion of the context of the community where it is implemented; its implementation; and finally, how it facilitated the process of change among stakeholders as well as in helping identify research topics that will answer some of the pressing concerns of the community to solve their governance challenges
