Impacts of COVID-19 on gender equality, youth and social inclusion (GEYSI)

Abstract

The study was implemented during the month of October 2020 by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) working with the Cellule d'Analyses des Indicateurs du Développement (CAID). The study was carried out in 4 provinces (Kwilu, Kwango, Kongo Central, and Kinshasa) in the western part of DRC (see Map). These provinces were selected because the western part was exposed to the virus at a higher level due to its proximity to Kinshasa – the main entry point of COVID-19 and the heart of the pandemic – which accounted for 68% of the total 54,193 COVID-19 cases as of August 2, 2021. A survey questionnaire following the five impact areas of the One CGIAR was used to collect the data and comprised 7 sections, including: 1) Demographic characteristics of the household members; 2) Household awareness and mitigation strategy against COVID-19; 3) Nutrition and food security; 4) Poverty reduction, livelihoods, and jobs; 5) Gender equality, youth and social inclusion; 6) Climate adaptation and greenhouse gas reduction; and 7) Environmental health and biodiversity. The dataset contains data on the impact of COVID-19 on gender equality and youth and social inclusion, as well as the data on the demographic characteristics of the sample
