Opening Plenary

As the official conference welcome, the opening plenary offered an opportunity for conference participants to greet each other and learn more about the conference aims, program, and portal. Distinguished speakers Arthur Mol, Rector Magnificus/Vice-president of the Executive Board at WUR; Claudia Sadoff, CGIAR Executive Management Team Convener and Managing Director, Research Delivery and Impact; and Nicoline de Haan, Director, CGIAR GENDER Platform, provided opening remarks. Co-coordinators Margreet vander Burg, Wageningen University, and Marlène Elias, Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, presented background on and the aims of the conference.

Prominent gender scholar Bina Agarwal, Professor of Development Economics and Environment, The University of Manchester, delivered the conference keynote. She provided insights on ‘Cultivating equality by cultivating in groups’ and addressed questions from the audience.
