Abstract
Theaverageannualrainfallof631mmintheKalakerisub-watershedasrecordedfromtheIrakallagadastationdatabyKSNDMC. 68percent,15percentand17percentoftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesarenotappropriateandneedtobealteredtoshiftthedeficitwaterbalance. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis17mmforanannualrainfallof706mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris31mm(70%of44mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(244mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis292mm(=244+17+31) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis527mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas659mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsismarginallyhigherby367mm,i.e.(659-292).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsis73%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisslightlylessopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinKalakeriSub-watershedasperLRIdatais214(205-Borewells&9-Openwells).GroundwaterlevelswasfoundfromthedataobtainedfromKSNDMCfortheneareststationofHonnahunsi.Deepestlevelswerefoundin2008
