RESOURCE MANAGEMENT ASPECTS OF SOIL FARMING SYSTEMS WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO JOLADARASI WATERSHED

Abstract

IN THIS PAPER, THE AUTHORS DISCUSS THE FARMING APPROACH WHICH ACCORDING TO THEM OFFERS RANGE OF OPTIONS TO HELP INCREASE AND STABILISE FARM PRODUCTION, IN THIS, THE EXPERIENCE OBTAINED IN JOLADARASI WATERSHED LOCATED IN SEMI- ARID REGION OF KARNATAKA STATE HAS BEEN PRESENTED AND IT IS INDICATED THAT INTEGRATION OF RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION, INTEGRATED NUTRIENT AND WATER MANAGEMENT AND OPTIMUM LAND USE PLANNING RESULTED IN PROJECTED PRODUCTION OF 214,300 KG OF FOOD GRAINS , 627, 195 KG OF FODDER AND 368,200 KG OF FUELWOOD, AGAINST THEIR BASE PRODUCTION LEVEL OF 129, 596, 150000 AND 15000 KG, RESPECTIVELY FROM A 550 HA WATERSHED. THE TECHNOLOGY GENERATED AND POSSIBILITIES OF INTEGRATING THE RESOURCE- INPUTS LAND- USE MANAGEMENT FROM ON- STATION STUDIES CAN SERVE AS A VALUABLE BASE FOR RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION
