Nutrition, Gender and Climate – A Just Transition towards Nourishing Nations

Vegetable gardening, Bangladesh. Mohammad Mahabubur Rahman, 2016. Mahabubur Rahman, 2016

As three billion people suffer from global hunger, further exacerbated by the effects of climate change, the world is waking up to the need to integrate and align global food systems transformation alongside climate mitigation and adaptation.
However, as we continue to de-risk and build resilient food systems, one population group – women, is easily overshadowed in decisions, policy changes and implementing solutions. Women play a crucial role in the food supply chains; more than half are engaged in post-harvest food supply chains, and many more are invisible.
Therefore, it is imperative that climate-resilient food systems solutions be gender- and nutrition-sensitive, leaving no one behind.
