Bio

Kate Ambler is a Research Fellow in the Markets, Trade, and Institutions Division at IFPRI. She completed her Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Michigan in 2013, specializing in development economics and economic demography. She also holds an M.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan and a B.A. in Economics from Williams College. Her research interests include gender and household economics, evaluation of agricultural programs, and migration and remittances. She has a special interest in understanding how social programs advance gender equality. She also has an interest in measurement, particularly as it relates to women’s empowerment and bargaining power and labor supply. Kate has experience with research conducted using randomized control trials, framed field experiments, and secondary data. She has worked on projects in sub-Saharan Africa, Central and South America, and Asia.
