Agroforestry System of Central and Lower Assam - A Pictorial Treatise

Abstract

Agroforestry survey in farmers’ field is pre-requisite to understand the nature of existing agroforestry system, mode of change of the system with time and for planning needed for improvement. In Assam, agroforestry survey in limited scale has been done since the establishment of the All India Coordinated Project on Agroforestry in 1983. However, the present study has been undertaken to carry out the survey extensively covering a large tract of the state. In the manuscript more emphasis has been given on representative photographs of the system observed during the survey; their brief characteristics have also been mentioned along with the photographs. Objectives, methodology of the survey and the results have also been discussed briefly. For easy understanding of the readers an appendix have been attached herewith showing the English/Common name, Assamese name, Scientific name, Family, etc. of different crop species found during the survey
