COMPARATIVE BIOMASS ACCUMULATION IN FOUR TREE SPECIES IN AN ENERGY PLANTATION
Abstract
DEALS WITH BIOMASS STUDIES OF A PLANTATION WITH FOUR DIFFERENT TREE SPECIES IN THE SEMI- ARID TRACT OF KARNATAKA . THE FUELWOOD PRODUCTION FROM STEM AND BRANCHES AFTER 6 YEARS WERE 42.62, 32.47 , 22.46 AND 17.82 t/ha IN LEUCAENA LEUCOCEPHALA , A . NILOTICA , A . INDICA AND EUCALYPTUS HYBRID RESPECTIVELY, UNDER 3 X 1 m SPACING. AT THE AGE OF 5 YEARS , UNDER 2X 1 m SPACING , THE YIELDS WERE 52.18, 24, 17.48 AND 12.60 t/ha IN L LEUCOCEPHALA , A INDICA, A NILOTICA AND EUCALYPTUS HYBRID AND A NILOTICA RESPECTIVELY. MAXIMUM UTILISABLE BIOMASS COULD BE OBTAINED FROM L LEUCOCEPHALA UNDER 2 X 1 m SPACING AT 5 YEARS ( 48.35 t/ha ) FOLLOWED BY 3X 1 m SPACING AT 6 YEARS ( 40.3 t/ha ) AND UNDER 2 X 2m SPACING AT 5 YEARS ( 23 t/ha)
