CROP PRODUCTIVITY IN SEMI- ARID RED SOIL WATERSHED, KARNATAKA
Abstract
A STUDY ON RESPONSE OF DIFFERENT CROPS WAS CONDUCTED IN G.R HALLI WATERSHED , LOCATED IN RED SOIL, SEMI- ARID REGION OF KARNATAKA STATE, DURING 1982-86 . AVAILABLE N CONTENT IN WATERSHED VARIED FROM 214 TO 232 kg/ha IN RIDGE , SLOPE AND BASIN LOCATIONS. GRAIN YIELDS OF SORGHUM , FINGERMILLET, GROUND NUT AND SUNFLOWER WERE AFFECTED DUETO INCREASE IN SLOPE OF LAND FROM 1.0 TO 5.0 % IN WATERSHED. RAINFALL IN CROP GROWTH PERIOD , WHICH VARIED FROM 178 TO 319 MM, INFLUENCED THE PRODUCTION OF SORGHUM , FINGERMILLET AND GROUNDNUT , WHEREAS SUNFLOWER WAS LEAST AFFECTED. WITH EVERY 1.0 % INCREASE IN SLOPE THE RESPECTIVE GRAIN YIELD DECREASE WAS 175, 90, 33 AND 61 kg/ha
