Demand is quantified for common bean

Abstract

This objective was completed ahead of schedule, but a summary is presented here. Data on production of pulses and human population suggest that per capita consumption must be declining. This raises critical questions among policy makers about future investments in pulse research. Does declining consumption imply that pulses will soon not be an important part of diets? Or does it signal the need for more investment? The answers to these questions require an understanding of consumer demand for pulses
