Effect of breeding seasons and presence of a dominant follicle on quality of buffalo and sheep oocytes
Abstract
Studies were undertaken to investigate the effect of breeding seasons and presence of a dominant follicle on quality of oocytes recovered from slaughterhouse ovaries in buffalo and sheep. Oocytes were collected during the low / non - breeding and peak breeding season. In another experiment, oocytes were collected in breeding seasons from buffalo and sheep ovaries with or without dominant follicle. Oocytes were evaluated for morphological appearance under zoom stereomicroscope. The recovery rates of good quality oocytes were significantly higher in breeding seasons and from ovaries without dominant follicles in both buffalo and sheep
