Evaluation of selected groundnut genotypes for agronomic traits and Foliar diseases at Sokoto 2016
Abstract
Groundnut is the most important grain legume, in terms of area under cultivation. Eight entries were selected from the multi location and On-farm evaluations for good pod yields, earliness of crop maturity, foliar disease resistance, tolerance to Aflatoxin contamination and entered into on-farm Farmer participatory trials at 12-14 sites located in Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Bauchi, Sokoto, Kebbi, Benue and Borno states covering the Guinea and Sudno-Sahelian ecological zones of Nigeria during 2016 main season. At each of these trial sites, selected farmers were given the four early ( ICGV-IS 07999, ICGV 94379, TAG 24 and ICGV 86024) and four medium maturing ( ICGV 01276, ICGV IS 09992, ICGV 08540 and ICGV 07539 ) elite breeding lines, which were tested along with improved check varieties viz., Samnut-24 (Early) and Samnut-22 (Medium maturity) in mother and baby demonstration fashion.
