Future Health Systems India Team investigates health of the affected population after the cyclone Aila hit the Sunderbans on May 25, 2009

Abstract

A brief assessment of the post-Aila situation is given by the FSH India team who visited several islands of the Sunderbans three days after the disaster struck. A serious shortage of drinking water is reported as sources of drinking water have become submerged under saline water. In many places, the sub-centers and primary health centers were completely washed away by the flood and the complete lack of sanitation is causing major health problems
