Household impacts of AIDS: Using a life course analysis to identify effective, poverty reducing interventions for prevention, treatment and care
Abstract
This paper uses a life course approach to assess household-level impacts and inform interventions around HIV and AIDS, based on evidence from the literature (in particular from sub-Saharan Africa and other badly-affected regions). It synthesizes and presents evidence on household impacts and stresses across seven major age related stages of life, and presents documented, relevant and effective interventions for dealing with these stresses. It is suggested that greater emphasis should be given to interventions that reduce latent impacts later in life. Recommendations are made for what DFID in particular should do to strengthen its interventions to deal with household impacts of AIDS
