Abstract

Theaverageannualrainfallof887mmintheBewanahallisub-watershedasrecordedfromtheGurmatkalstationdatabyKSNDMC. 75percent,14percentand11percentoftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesarenotappropriateandneedtobealteredtoshiftthedeficitwaterbalance. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis24mmforanaverageannualrainfallof919mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris49.7mm(70%of71mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(133mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis207(=133+24+50) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis540mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas675mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby468mm,i.e.(675-207).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsisonly47%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinBewanahalliSub-watershedasperLRIdatais10(9-Borewells&1-Openwell).ThegroundwaterlevelwasfoundfromthedataobtainedfromKSNDMCfortheneareststationBalichakra.Deepestlevelswerefoundin2013
