Abstract
Theaverageannualrainfallof887mmintheHattikunisub-watershedasrecordedfromtheHattikunistationdata. 80%,12%and8%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesarenotappropriateandneedtobealteredtoshiftthedeficitwaterbalance. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis33mmforanaverageannualrainfallof830mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris49.7mm(70%of71mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(232mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis315(=232+33+50) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis558mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas697mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby382mm,i.e.(697-315).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsisonly50%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinHattikuniSub-watershedasperLRIdatais48Borewells.ThegroundwaterleveldataobtainedfromDept.ofMines&GeologyfortheneareststationAllipur.Thegroundwaterlevelduringtheyears2009-2015wereslightlyvarying,whereasduringtheyear2008and2016werefoundconstant
