Abstract

Theaverageannualrainfallof887mmintheYakehallisub-watershedasrecordedfromtheHattikunistationdata. 80%,12%and8%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesarenotappropriateandneedtobealteredtoshiftthedeficitwaterbalance. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis53mmforanaverageannualrainfallof830mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris49.7mm(70%of71mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(142mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis245(=142+53+50) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis563mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas704mm(i.e.125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby459mm,i.e.(704-245).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsisonly52%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinYakehalliSub-watershedasperLRIdatais8Borewells.ThegroundwaterleveldataobtainedfromDept.ofMines&GeologyfortheneareststationYergol.Thegroundwaterlevelduringtheyears2011-2017wereslightlyvarying,whereasduringtheyear2014wasfoundconstant
