Abstract

Theaverageannualrainfallof772mmintheKhairatsub-watershedasrecordedfromtheAlandstationdatabyKSNDMC. 77%,12%and11%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisinsustainablelimit. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis1mmforanaverageannualrainfallof776mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris38mm(70%of54mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(167mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis206(=167+38+1) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis505mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas631mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby425mm,i.e.(631-206).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsis53%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinKhairatSub-watershedasperLRIdatais76(43-Borewellsand33-Openwells).ThegroundwaterlevelwasfoundfromthedataobtainedfromKSNDMCfortheneareststationSavaleshwar.Deepestlevelswerefoundin2010
