Abstract

The paper is divided into five sections starting with an introduction followed by a brief overview of the role of agricultural growth in poverty reduction in India. Section 3 examines incidence of poverty across regions and discusses the dynamics of poverty under dry land conditions among the four states in Western India. This is followed in section 4 by an analysis of the correlates of poverty at two levels viz., region as well as district within these states. The last section summarizes the discussion and draws policy implications
