Report of the workshop to review a decision support tool and extension manual for promoting fodder shrubs to dairy farmers of the highlands of East Africa

Abstract

A workshop was conducted in Nairobi, Kenya, from the 18th to the 20th of July, 2005, to review a Decision Support Tool(DST) and an Extension Manual (EM) for promoting fodder shrubs to dairy farmers of the highlands of East Africa. There were participants from all the target countries: Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. The workshop was scheduled after a pre-workshop individual review of the documents. The workshop was conducted in a participatory manner covering the following main topics: intended audience and language level; contents; layout; images; decision pathways; strategy for distribution. The main result of the review was a fair amount of comments and suggestions related to make the reading experience more easy and the documents more concise, without losing any of the information. The participants agreed that the draft was of an already high standard, and the final product was thought to be extremely useful
