Responsibly improving access to ACTs in the private sector. Report of the MoH-MMV workshop series, Kampala, Uganda, 26 September - 2 October 2007
Abstract
In September-October 2007, the Ugandan Ministry of Health and the Medicines for Malaria Venture held a series of four workshops to plan an operational research intervention to distribute a subsidised artemisinin-combination therapy (ACT) based on studies in 6 districts of Uganda. This report provides brief descriptions of each workshop (with links to the agenda and presentations from each) and then describes the concept behind the intervention. The main part of the report describes the key outputs and recommendations resulting from the 4th workshop (which brought together issues from the first three), under the headings of policy and regulation, the antimalarial market, social marketing, training and monitoring and evaluation. A final brief section describes the steps that needed to happen next. See also the individual workshops: District Workshop; Deep Dive Data Workshop; Pricing Studies Workshop; and Planning Workshop
