A review of development interventions and livelihood approaches in Uganda

Abstract

This paper charts Uganda's current development strategy, and seeks to identify to what extent such a strategy can be seen as fitting a 'sustainable livelihoods approach'. The findings presented here are the result of a literature review covering current intervention policy, and a series of interviews with development practitioners in Uganda. Interventions are then compared against the set of principles defined by DFID as being necessary to a sustainable livelihoods approach, in order to assess the degree to which sustainable livelihoods principles have been adopted
