Trypansoma Equiperdum: Detection of trypanosomal antibodies and antigen by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay
Abstract
An ELISA test employing Trypanozoon-specific antigen was used to detect trypanosomal antibodies and monoclonal antibodies in an antigen capture assay to detect circulating trypanosomal antigen in 5 rabbits and 4 horses experimentally infected with T. equiperdum. Although the reproducibility, sensitivity and specificity for any of the ELISA tests used for detecting trypanosomal antigens and antibodies were not determined, the results showed that a Trypanozoon group-specific trypanosomal antigen could be of use in an antibody assay for the diagnosis of T. equiperdum infections
