Investing in women to accelerate progress towards equitable agrifood systems
The 2024 International Women's Day (IWD), according to the UN Women theme, will rally behind a Call to "Invest in Women: Accelerate progress.” The theme seeks to spotlight actions toward closing the equality gender gap by 2030 to secure prosperous and just economies and a healthy planet for future generations.
With global trends indicating gender equality has only advanced by 4.1 percent and the gap is substantially widening, it is imperative to pay attention to gender-responsive approaches driving positive change across the agrifood systems.
As we mark IWD on March 8, African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) will co-convene a dialogue with the CGIAR GENDER Impact Platform and CIFOR-ICRAF to ignite conversations on investments in women that continue to foster equitable agri-food systems while calling for better targeting of such investments for maximum impact in transforming agri-food systems.
Discussions will focus on how to invest in agricultural solutions that work for women and the role of institutions in improving the numbers and experiences of women in agrifood systems leadership.
The conversation will feature an interactive panel conversation, and a fireside chat with seasoned experts who will share learnings and perspectives on solutions that work for women.
