Bio

Vanya Slavchevska joined the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome as a Social Policy Officer in the Inclusive Rural Transformation and Gender Equality division in 2021. She is a gender and development economist with over 10 years of experience and one of the lead authors of FAO’s 2023 report on The Status of Women in Agrifood Systems. Before FAO, she worked as a gender and social inclusion scientist in the Crops for Nutrition and Health Lever of the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, based in the regional offices in Hanoi, Vietnam and Cali, Colombia. Vanya has field experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and Asia and has published extensively on gender and inclusivity issues in agriculture, rural transformation, migration, and land rights for diverse audiences. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from American University, Washington, D.C. and B.A., Economics, Summa Cum Laude, from Hood College, Frederick, MD.
