In this issue, we share with you the latest news from the CGIAR GENDER Platform as well as updates on gender research from CGIAR Centers, Research Programs and Platforms.

We are making progress on gender equality in food systems, but tough new questions on potential trade-offs and backlashes demand more investment into gender research, wrote CGIAR GENDER Platform Director Nicoline de Haan in a recent op-ed.

A recent discussion on gender and youth integration in rice-based food systems in Africa concluded that while women’s participation and roles may vary across regions, the reality remains the same: women are central to the sustainable development of agri-food systems.

We also share a reading list with ten recommended publications for anyone wanting to take a closer look at the role of gender in value chains, invite registrations for the upcoming Cultivating Equality 2021 Conference, and encourage applications for the new CGIAR Gender Researchers’ Leadership and Mentoring Program.
