This course introduces gender concepts, the UN’s international frameworks for and promotion of gender equality. It includes methods for working towards gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The course is offered in English, French and Spanish.

What will you learn?

To develop and strengthen awareness and understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment as a first step towards behavioral change and the integration of a gender perspective into everyday work:

  • Promoting gender equality throughout the system

What resources do you need to do it?

You need internet access and a computer. You need to open an online account (with login and passcode) to access the course. You need to be able to open PDFs, Flash, and sound.

More about this training

Designed for UN staff and others who are interested to learn about gender issues, be introduced to the concepts, international framework, and methods for working toward gender equality and women’s empowerment.

It is a first step towards behavioral change and the integration of a gender perspective into everyday work for all UN staff at headquarters, regional and country levels.

It takes about 2.5 hours to complete the three core modules. You receive a certificate for completing this part of the training, and may take extra modules on specific themes after that. Learning is self-paced.

The thematic modules offer you an opportunity to make links between gender and specific areas such as economic empowerment, education, political participation, emergencies, peace and security, sexual and reproductive health, sexual and gender diversity and human rights, and violence against women.
